Have you ever heard the urgent clatter and cadence of a teletype delivering the news from remote locations across the globe? Keyboard typed characters were transmitted through the phone lines before the age of fax. At the other end, a dedicated receiver decoded the pulses and directed the typewriter printer to strike the ink ribbon and print on the paper. At the same time, a perforated ticker tape was produced so that the news story could be immediately given to a Linotype operator to make a lead slug for the newspaper. A broadcaster could pull off the news at it appeared and read it on-the-air. An editor could make "improvements" on the correspondent's file with the simple use of a red crayon pencil or a scissors.

This machine, possibly built in the 1960's is located in Aurora, Colorado, USA (Denver). It operates on 220 volt DC European current. It transmits at 50 Baud.
